Holiday Celebrations and Travel Preparations

Happy New Year!

We are winding down a month in Prescott after celebrating a wonderful holiday with friends and family. After returning home from New York we went into full Christmas mode by decorating and cooking and spending great times with family and friends.

We made it home (thanks to the Judy and Larry Green airport shuttle) from New York in time for Prescott’s Acker Night, a celebration of the holidays and local music. Our time at home overlapped with Marla and Cory’s by one day, and we all enjoyed Acker Night together. They are now in Southeast Asia and then Australia until April.

Christmas Cookies

Before they left, Marla baked grandma’s cut cookies and Mickie and I enjoyed decorating them together.

Judy and Larry joined us for Christmas and made it to Prescott just in time for a White Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve watching the snow fall and opening gifts at Mickie’s beautifully decorated home. By Christmas morning we had almost a foot of the white stuff. It was a perfect setting for a peaceful, family-filled day.

We were almost snowed in on Xmas Eve

In the last month we’ve had visits from friends and family including Russ and Shelley Heath and Gina and Lauren Finley. We also hosted a New Years Eve happy hour for our Prescott neighbors who stayed in town and braved the winter weather. While we love traveling and exploring new places, it’s always wonderful to reconnect with our friends and family.

Now that we’ve had a month at home to do laundry and take care of business we are heading back out on the road. In just ten days we’ll chase the sun to the south to explore South America and Antarctica during the height of their summer. As the Internet gods allow, our blog posts will continue, and we hope you will continue to follow along. Here is a brief overview of our upcoming itinerary.

January 15 – 28 ECELA Spanish Immersion Program – Viña del Mar, Chile

January 28 – February 6 Torres del Paine National Park – EcoCamp Patagonia

February 6 – 11 El Calafate, Argentina to explore the Perito Moreno Glaciar

February 11 – 17 El Chalten, Argentina, the trekking capital of Patagonia

February 17 – 23 Ushuaia, Argentina to prepare for our cruise to Antarctica

February 23 – March 15 Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands – MS Fram

March 15 – 20 Punta del Este, Uruguay, for a little beach recuperation

At each leg we have fun adventures and challenges planned. Watch for more updates and photos. In the meantime, enjoy these pictures from the holidays in Prescott.

Again, Happy New Year!
